All that remains of the foreshore part of the garage are the few wharf piles in the harbour although for a few decades the old truck rusting away precariously sitting on these was a sort of Kohukohu emblem photographed by our many visitors from around the world. When the truck was finally taken away a wake was held attended by many village residents.
The Geddes gallery was created from the garage building on the other side of the road - now an attractive holiday location.
There is information about the Gurney family in this interesting study about the Gurney Whanau of Aotearoa New Zealand.
